Laura James wins EDI Champion of the Year at Inspiring Women in Property Awards .

Diversity & Inclusion 19 Oct 2023

Head of Scotland and Chair of our Belonging Group, Laura James, was crowned Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Champion of the Year for Financial and Professional Services at the Property Week Inspiring Women in Property Awards.

Highlights .

  • EDI Award for Head of Scotland Laura James
  • Recognition of BakerHicks' Belonging initiative
  • Creating a truly inclusive culture where everyone feels valued and respected

This award recognises the huge amount of passion and commitment Laura has poured into our EDI strategy over the past two years. She has been an energetic lead, driving a programme of change across the business with the aim of enabling all employees to feel respected and valued, that they can bring their true selves to work, and have access to the support and opportunities they need to progress their careers.

This journey started with a call for volunteers for our Belonging Group, with individuals from across the company, from a wide range of backgrounds, but all with a common desire to help us work towards achieving our EDI goals. Laura has been at the helm of this group since its formation, leading the discussions and workshops that informed our action plan. From there she led taskforces to update company policies; improve recruitment practices to ensure equal opportunities; establish a meaningful grassroots careers programme; create a culture of awareness within the company; and provide employees with the training to ensure they understand and are knowledgeable on key EDI issues.

Authentic and meaningful, this strategy connects with employee journey touch points, encouraging positive behaviours at all levels of the business, and creating a truly inclusive culture where everyone feels valued and respected. Laura has been the backbone and driver of this progress; she genuinely cares about the issues at hand and is thoroughly deserving of this award.
